IT saddens me greatly to see that Bolton Market is suffering and the people that I've spoken to say that this is because of the bus station move to Newport St. I think that everything must be done to secure the future of the market so that Bolton keeps its status as a market town. The solution is to route all buses going to and from the new bus station past the market on their way into town and the same on the way out. This will also be of benefit to passengers travelling to the Town Hall, Library and University. It would for example be possible to use one end of the old bus station to provide a lane in both directions with bus stops. The council's one hour parking limit is also contributing to people only spending a short time in the town centre. This is not enough time to have a meal and do your shopping. We need to encourage people to spend more time in the town centre and use all the amenities.
