AN eight-year-old from Bolton has inspired a delivery business to give its boxes a fairytale makeover.

Harry Tierney used the box from his mum’s new fridge-freezer to make a very impressive castle for him and his friends to play in.

Thrilled with his fort Harry wrote a letter to “Mr AO.com” inviting him to come and play in the fort too.

Harry’s letter said: “Dear Mr AO,

“This year Mummy got a big shiny fridge from you for Christmas.

“I like it when big presents come in big boxes because I can make a fort that grown-ups can’t come in.

“This is a picture of me in my fort, it’s the biggest I have made. My friends are coming over to play in my fort and I wanted to tell you that you can come too if you want.”

David Lawson, managing director of AO.com was “very impressed” by Harry’s fort and the “fantastic detail” of the windows and drawbridge.

He said: “Sometimes the most entertainment children can have is with the simplest of items. I remember creating a cardboard-box fort myself when I was younger but it wasn’t a patch on Harry’s!”

Harry’s architectural know-how has prompted AO.com to work on creating new packaging which features dashed lines to help children create their very own fort from the cardboard box. They will be going out to customers this year and if they go down well could be here to stay.

Harry’s mum Gemma, aged 34, said: “As soon as the fridge freezer arrived, Harry was asking me if he could have the cardboard box, and five minutes later he was creating this amazing fort.

“Later that day he asked whether his friends can come around and Mr AO, I wondered who he meant at first and then I realised, so we thought we’d show them exactly what Harry had been up to with their packaging.”
