A TEENAGER punched his mother in the face after she made disparaging remarks about his girlfriend.

Lisa Magari suffered a fractured cheekbone and eye socket in the assault at her home on November 21.

David Lees, prosecuting, told Bolton Crown Court that the relationship between mother and her son, 19-year-old Louis Nolan, had been "violent and tempestuous."

But he hit her after she objected to being woken up in the early hours of the morning when he came back to their Burnham Walk, Farnworth, house and she made comments about the father-of-two's partner.

When arrested Nolan told police: "I didn't mean to hit my mum, it was an accident."

At the time of the assault Nolan was on bail for throwing a broken bottle neck at Philip Derbyshire following an argument in the street on July 8.

The court heard that Mr Derbyshire was left with a cut left cheek and ear.

Colin Buckle, defending, stressed that Nolan, who has ADHD and mental health issues, had been provoked.

"This was an incident that came to him, he didn't go to it," said Mr Buckle.

"Louis Nolan reacted in a stupid and immature way and caused an injury to Philip Derbyshire."

Nolan pleaded guilty to two counts of causing grievous bodily harm.

Judge Graeme Smith told Nolan that he was planning to give him a suspended custodial term for 12 months but decided to defer sentence until February 12.

In the meantime Nolan has to find a place to live, co-operate with supervision from the probation service and stay away from his victims.

The judge told him: "If you do not comply fully with this then the sentence will be immediate custody. This is not an easy option."
