POLICE have revealed the woman who died after she was hit by a train at Farnworth Railway Station was in her twenties.
Although they have not publicly named her nor said if she lives locally, her family have been informed.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 1.30pm yesterday, following reports of an incident involving an unknown female.
The station, on the junction of Bridge Street and Cemetery Road, was closed as paramedics and officers deal with the incident.
The situation was dealt with by the British Transport Police (BTP) and North West Ambulance Service.
A BTP spokesman said yesterday: "Shortly before 1.30pm today, officers from British Transport Police were called to the line close to Farnworth station near Bolton, after reports of a person being struck by a train.
"Paramedics also attended however a person has sadly been pronounced dead at the scene."
He added: "Their death is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
Train services returned to the station after emergency services left the scene.
