THE family of a popular barmaid have launched an appeal to fund potentially life-saving treatment for her.

Grandmother-of-three Lesley Marsh, 56, who has worked at the Atherton Arms pub on Tyldesley Road for around 20 years, was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in 2017.

After having chemotherapy, Lesley was given the all-clear last March but in November doctors found cancer had spread into her lungs.

Her daughter Simone set up a crowdfunding page to raise money to pay for hyperthermia treatment, which is not available through the NHS, at the Klinik Marinus am Stein in Germany.

Simone, 24, said: "It would mean everything to get this treatment for my mum. I live with her and my daughter.

"She is very well-liked because she has worked at the pub for so long.

"It’s devastating as my mum still has so much to do in life and see her grandchildren grow up."

Although chemotherapy has been offered to Lesley, she suffered badly with pneumonia and chest infections when she had it two years ago.

As secondary breast cancer is classed as incurable in the UK, Simone discovered it costs £18,000 for one treatment in Germany.

St Philip's CE Primary School in Atherton, where Simone's four-year-old daughter Alaiyah attends, held a cake and coffee morning in aid of the appeal.

Bluestone Nursery in Leigh is running a pyjama day too.

Simone was also part of a team of four which climbed Snowdon last year to raise more than £800 for Cancer Research UK.
