A MOTORIST caught in queues which formed after the M58 crash which claimed the life of Radcliffe teenager Joe Cairns, has sadly died.

The 91-year-old female driver was driving a Ford Fiesta which was caught up in a collision with a Mercedes lorry, a Ford Transit van and an Audi car on January 8.

The woman from Orrell, suffered serious head, chest and leg injuries. She was taken to Aintree Hosptial for treatment but sadly died on Wednesday.

The driver of the Ford Transit, a 52-year-old man from Golborne, suffered chest and back injuries, with a passenger in the vehicle, a 49-year-old man from Radcliffe, suffering a minor head injury.

A 38-year-old man from Bradford, the driver of the Audi, suffered a fractured skull, facial fractures and head injuries. All those injured were treated at Aintree Hospital.

The earlier crash in which Joe died occurred on a stretch of the M58 near Skelmersdale. He was a passenger on a minibus travelling to Pontville School in Ormskirk when the incident happened.

Joe's teacher Anne Kerr, aged 50, from Southport was also killed, while three other children from the Bury area suffered serious injuries.
