EAGER beavers who want to make the most out of life have a new outlet for their enthusiasm thanks to a newly-formed Scout group.

The 37th Bolton Salaam Scouts Group was launched earlier this month and 32 boys and girls have already joined up to its beaver and cub packs.

It covers an area of Bolton South and Farnworth and was set up due to a growing demand and now has a long waiting list.

Group Scout leader Farah Khan said: “The community spirit and help and support we have received from the scouting community has truly helped us to come together and establish this group.” She added: “The group aims to provide opportunities for children to reach their full potential in life and be the best that they can be physically, mentally and spiritually. Allowing them to develop skills and knowledge that can help them in their futures and, within their communities.”

Two taster sessions introduced younger children to scouting values delivered via a range of interactive activities. The children then made their Beaver and Cub Scout promise and learnt all about the potential opportunities they would be able to get involved in over the coming months.

The group’s base is the Ladybridge Community Centre in Beaumont Drive, an area with a large Muslim community. However, organisers are keen to stress that the group is for youngsters of all faiths.

Rob Pimblett, district commissioner for Bolton South with Farnworth Scouts said: “A range of faiths, beliefs, attitudes and nationalities are reflected in the scouting community. Scouting creates engaging individuals with community spirit.

He added: “We are pleased that scouting is growing in the Muslim community, especially in a diverse town such as Bolton and I am pleased to welcome the 37th Bolton Salaam Scouts Group.”

The group meets fortnightly between 9am and 10.15am on Sundays. The next meeting is on January 27. Email salaamscout@gmail.com
