DRIVERS should expect disruption in a number of key areas this week as work kicks off across Bolton's streets.

The first set of work is part of a wider scheme which will see engineers close four streets in order to replace a 100-year-old gas main.

Operatives from Cadent Gas had planned to remove the pipe and place a new one, but need to close several roads at their junctions with Halliwell Road.

The cast iron pipe has transported gas for heat and power since 1907, but has started to show deterioration with age.

The four streets that will be closed are Carl Street, Darwin Street, Eskrick Street and Grove Street.

They will be shut from today (Monday, January 21), until work is scheduled to be completed on February 15.

In addition to these new closures, there have been temporary traffic lights in place on Halliwell Road, between Eskrick Street and Gladstone Street, since the first day of the year.

To contact engineers from Cadent Gas call 0845 835 1111.

Next, Tottington Road will be completely closed near Raikes Cottage for the first two days of the week.

This is due to work being completed by United Utilities Water Division in order to repair a defect in piping below the road.

The street is expected to be fully reopen by Wednesday, January 23.

Similarly, there will be a lane closed on Salford Road, at the junction with Newbrook Road, during off-peak hours today (Monday, January 21).

This is to allow staff from TfGM and Siemens to repair detector loops used on the traffic lights in the area.

To contact Siemens engineers, call 0161 244 1000.

Following that, temporary traffic lights will be in place on Belmont Road, beginning tomorrow, January 22.

The lights will allow United Utilities engineers to close a section of the road in Horrocks Fold in order to complete work on pipes below the road.

It will continue until Thursday, January 24. To contact the Water Division, call 0345 6723 723.

Finally, on Sunday, January 27, temporary traffic lights will be in place on Bradford Road and Green Lane.

This is to allow engineers from BT Openreach to repair telecoms poles on both streets. It will last all day but is expected to be completed by Monday.

To contact BT, call 0800 023 2023.
