A MAN is in a serious condition after being shot in Rochdale.

Shortly before 2.50pm, police were called to reports that a man had been shot on Knowsley Street.

Officers, including firearms officers, attended.

A 24-year-old man was taken to hospital with leg injuries, where he remains in a serious condition.

A scene remains in place on Knowsley Street.

Police believe the shooting was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the wider community.

Officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forwarded.

Detective Inspector Mark McDowall from GMP’s Rochdale Division said: “We understand the concern that an incident like this will cause and I want to reassure the public that a full investigation has been launched.

“I would like to state that we are currently treating this as an isolated incident and there is not believed to be any wider threat to the community.

“Residents in the area of the shooting may notice an increased visible police presence, and we would encourage members of the public to approach officers with any concerns they may have.”
