GRITTERS in Bolton have covered more than 1,200 miles since Monday evening.

Bolton Council has seven gritting vehicles, which have been out four times covering the full route network.

They have covered a combined total of more than 1,268 miles so far, spreading hundreds of tonnes of grit.

Cllr David Chadwick, Executive Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “The team has been working around the clock and thanks to their hard work have been able to keep the main roads mostly clear.

“We are expecting more wintry weather and the team is ready to continue their good work.

“In weather like this we would advise people to be prepared, allow extra time for journeys and check their vehicle to make sure it is ready and safe for winter driving.

“Remember that even if there is grit on the roads, the salt can take time to be effective.

“Also if there is heavy snowfall it can be difficult for any amount of grit to work properly.”

Drivers are still advised to travel with care.
