SNOW and icy weather have led to missed bin collections.

Bolton Council warned that some collections had been missed today because of the cold conditions.

Lorries were sent back later in the afternoon, but anyone who did not have their grey bins emptied is advised to take them out again before 7.30am on Saturday and check social media for updates.

For people who did not have their recycling bins emptied, they will be emptied on the next scheduled date.

Cllr David Chadwick, executive cabinet member for highways, said: “The team has been working around the clock and thanks to their hard work have been able to keep the main roads mostly clear.

“We are expecting more wintry weather and the team is ready to continue their good work.

“In weather like this we would advise people to be prepared, allow extra time for journeys and check their vehicle to make sure it is ready and safe for winter driving.

“Remember that even if there is grit on the roads, the salt can take time to be effective.

“Also if there is heavy snowfall it can be difficult for any amount of grit to work properly.”

Since Monday evening, the gritters have been out four times covering the full route network, they have covered a combined total of more than 1,268 miles so far.
