A COMMUNITY group is looking for help in its bid to become a hub for its local area.

Altogether Little Lever was set up last year by a group of volunteers, operating out of the Little Lever Centre in Herbert Street.

The building was previously used as a children centre before it shut in 2016.

Mytham Primary School took over the building from Bolton Council the following year, and opened a nursery within it while also enabling a host of existing events and groups to continue using it as a base.

In its first year, Altogether Little Lever, which has links to the school, has held a number of its own events, including an open day and a number of craft fairs.

Long-term, the group is hoping to run a wider variety of events for the community, such as social events for older people and a youth club for 10-13-year-olds.

And it has now issued an appeal for members of the community to get involved to help achieve its ambitions.

The group's interim chair Angela Bogle, who is the headteacher at Mytham Primary School, said: "We had all this space and it was not being used 70 per cent of the time, so we wanted to use it for the community.

"It is such a valuable resource for the Little Lever community that was being overlooked.

"We want to be a community hub and bring people together to form something special. We have got the commitment to create this, but we need more people from the community to join in and help out."

The group has appealed for members of the community to support the centre by volunteering with roles such as administration, gardening, managing social media, organising events, publicity and committee members.

They are also looking for a volunteer to help put together bids for funding.

Anyone interested is invited to attend the group's next meeting at the Little Lever Centre on Monday, March 4 from 6.30pm.

Little Lever and Darcy Lever councillor David Evans said: "Groups like this are the lifeblood of the community. We want to encourage as much participation as possible so people are proud to live here and will give something back."
