THE first Horwich First Community Litter Pick of 2019 will take place tomorrow from 10am to noon at Old Station Park, Horwich.

If you can spare a couple of hours to keep Horwich tidy, then please do come along, our events are open to all!

All equipment and refreshments are provided.

In the 11 official monthly litter picks organised by Horwich First last year, a magnificent 93 different volunteers have signed in, and they have cleared over 579 bags of rubbish from the streets of Horwich.

Even more has been collected by volunteers on their own walks, by the lending of equipment to other organisations to do their bit, or joining in with other clean up events.

In addition, several knives, syringes, an axe and numerous traffic cones have been removed from the streets of Horwich last year, as have other items, including dumped asbestos material, which was safely removed by Electricity North West.

In October, a record 99 bags of litter was removed from Vale Ward.

It's great to see how the community has got behind our community litter picks, so can we take this opportunity to thank each and every person who has contributed to cleaning up our town that little bit in 2018.

Firstly, to all the volunteers, to all those who have donated refreshments and equipment, and also to the Environmental Services team who supply our equipment and then clear the waste in a timely manner.

Advanced notice that our next Community Litter Picks (after this weekend) will be held on Sunday, February 17, and then Saturday, March 23, the latter as part of the Great British Spring Clean.
