AN article about Greggs in Bolton selling out of its vegan sausage rolls has sparked a row between Andy Burnham and Piers Morgan.

The pair traded jibes on Twitter over the article with the Mayor of Greater Manchester claiming Bolton "knows better" than the Good Morning Britain host.

Mr Morgan responded in kind with a jibe suggesting the Mayor was celebrating the "obesity crisis".

Yesterday The Bolton News published an article showing the Greggs branch in Newport Street had sold out of their new vegan sausage rolls promising customers their bakery team was "working round the clock".

Last night, from his personal account, Mr Burnham Tweeted: "Bolton 1 @piersmorgan 0" with a link to the story before deleting the Tweet and writing: "Bolton knows better than @piersmorgan. No surprise there."

A number of Tweeters replied sharing their frustration at being unable to buy one of the new rolls because they were selling fast.

Just 11 minutes later Mr Morgan retweeted the Mayor saying: "Manchester Mayor celebrates Bolton people making Britain’s obesity crisis worse by stuffing their faces with tasteless, expensive, PR-stunt fake sausage rolls that have more calories than McDonalds cheeseburgers. Congrats!"
