THE most recent data released by the Department for Transport shows that 4,069 CAR accidents were recorded in Greater Manchester in 2017.
Of those, 474 happened within the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton.
After analysing data from Greater Manchester Police, we can reveal the top five accident hotspots in Bolton:
1) Spa Road, on the junction with Moor Lane, White Lion Brow and Deansgate - Six separate incidents between March 2017 and March 2018.
2) Bradford Street on the junction of St Peter’s Way - Five separate incidents between March 2017 and March 2018.

3) Derby Street between Gibbon Street and Pearce Street - Four separate incidents between March 2017 and March 2018.
4) Derby Street on the junction of Fletcher Street and University Way - Four separate incidents between March 2017 and March 2018.
5) Where Lever Street meets with Nelson Street and Thynne Street. - Four separate incidents between March 2017 and March 2018.

Bolton Council’s cabinet member for Highways and Transport Cllr David Chadwick said: “I don’t know the individual circumstances of these accidents but I remember reading about them in The Bolton News
“Unfortunately there’s not a lot Highways can do about this, it’s the job of the police to apprehend anybody driving dangerously.
“What I will say is that a lot of people ignore speed limits. They are a maximum, not a minimum.”
