A MAN who used “vile, racist language” towards two police officers has been sentenced to eight weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months.

Bolton magistrates heard how David Bateman was drunk when he used threatening behaviour towards both PC Kaur and PC Hassan on December 
30.

Bateman, aged 27, of Birch Avenue, Westhoughton, pleaded guilty to committing the offences, which the court ruled were both racially and religiously aggravated.

He was ordered to pay his victims a total of £200 in compensation , must carry out 120 hours of unpaid work and participate in 20 days of rehabilitation activities.
