POLICE have caught somebody riding an off-road bike with a quantity of cannabis.

Greater Manchester Police's off road bike team spotted the offender when they were patrolling Moses Gate Country Park, earlier today.

The offender was detained and has been summonsed for drug and driving offences.

The bike and the cannabis were both recovered by police.

GMP Bolton South posted on Facebook: "GMP Off Road Bike Team patrolled Moses Gate Country Park – recovered an off road bike and quantity of cannabis. Offender detained and summonsed for drug / driving offences."

It came as part of the police's Operation Camenca crackdown on illegal off-road bikes.

Launched in October 2018, the operation was initially carried out in Astley Bridge, Johnson Fold, Hall i’th’ Wood, and Breightmet following a large number of complaints about nuisance motorcyclists.

In less than five hours, police officers seized a number of vehicles and gathered vital intelligence from members of the public.

At the time, Inspector Nicola Williams, who organised the operation, said: “We are working extremely hard to combat the problem but due to our limited resources and capabilities, we are unable to stop these bikers.

"We want to keep working with people and ask them to continue providing us with intelligence by calling 101 if they see off-road bikers so we can send our resources to specific locations.”
