TWO women have suffered serious injuries after a car crash in Farnworth.

Emergencery services rushed to the scene in Harper Green Road, at the junction with Carnation Street, at around 6.40pm yesterday, after three cars collided.

It is understood that four people were injured in the incident, including two women - one of whom was taken to Salford Royal Hospital and the other to Manchester Royal Infirmary.

Nearby residents reported that one of the cars had hit a tree and another a house, and that one of the vehicles involved had been a parked car.

A North West Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called to reports of an RTC at 6.39pm.

"We sent two rapid response vehicles and ambulances to the scene.

"We treated two patients and took both to hospital. Both patients are female and both have got serious injuries. One went to Salford Royal Hospital and one the Manchester Royal Infirmary."

The Bolton News:

Following the crash Harper Green Road was cordoned off, near to the playing fields, as the road police unit and the serious collision unit investigated at the scene.

One of the cars involved also remained on Harper Green Road for sometime.

Speaking after the crash, Farnworth councillor Jean Gillies described the incident as "terrible" and noted that the area around Harper Green Road has become a car crash hotspot in recent years.

She said: "It is so bad. Someone is going to get killed unless someone starts doing something.

"For the last two or three years it has been increasing and in the last 12 months it has got worse."

Councillor Gillies added that she is now in discussions to arrange a public meeting to try and solve the issue.
