TWO teenagers are in critical condition in hospital following a serious car crash.

The collision on Harper Green Road in Farnworth took place on Sunday night and involved three cars. At around 6.40pm, all emergency services were called to the residential street after reports that a car had crashed into a tree. Two 19-year-old women were taken to hospital to be treated for serious head injuries, where they remain. The police investigation has established that a grey VW Golf, in which the two women were passengers, was travelling on the road from the direction of Plodder Lane. The Golf narrowly avoided colliding with a black car at the junction of Carnation Road, but crashed into a parked Honda Accord before hitting a tree and house. The black car left the scene shortly after.

A 19-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving but has been released under investigation.

Sergeant Jon McColl, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our investigation is in the early stages so I am appealing for anyone who has information to come forward. They may have witnessed the collision or the Golf driving in the area immediately before.

“I am also keen to identify the black car that left the scene. Although there was no direct contact, the driver is aware of the collision and I would urge them to make contact.”
