A FARNWORTH man has been jailed after making threats to kill his partner.

Ryan Hope, of Rydal Grove in Farnworth, was sentenced to 60 weeks, half of which will be served on licence, after pleading guilty to harassment at an earlier hearing.

At Bolton Crown Court on Thursday, he was also made the subject of a five-year restraining order, prohibiting him from making contact with his victim.

The court heard that on January 4 of this year, Hope sent a series of abusive text and voicemail messages to his partner, in which he threatened to kill her.

Later in the evening, the pair met up, but Hope continued to make threats to the woman.

The court heard that she believed he had a weapon on him, which later turned out to be his mobile phone.

However, the pair then had an altercation in Highfield Road, in which Hope grabbed his partner. At the time of the offence, Hope, aged 31, was subject to a suspended sentence, which he had not fully complied with.

Defending, Andrew Costello, said Hope was ‘disappointed’ in his actions.

He added: “He is not a pleasant human being when he has had a drink.”

Sentencing, Judge Graeme Smith said: “When you have drank too much, you turn into a horrible person and say nasty things to the people close to you.

“That is precisely what has happened in respect of this incident.”
