LASTING tribute has been paid to those suffering from lung disease.

An oak tree and time capsule, dedicated to patients with pulmonary fibrosis, have been planted on the lawn at Royal Bolton Hospital.

The tributes were part of Manchester Airport’s 80th Birthday Oak Tree Celebration and were awarded to the Bolton Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group which is supported by the national charity Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis.

The time capsule contains present day knowledge of the disease, a CD with news coverage on the disease and a map of the hospital as it is today.

Stephen Millward, who helped spearhead the support group in Bolton, said: “The planting of the tree and time capsule is a fitting tribute to our patient support group and also marks our first anniversary. Knowing the tree and time capsule will be around long after its present members have passed on will be a reminder that people cared and gave their time and effort to support each other."

Steve Jones, of Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis, said: "The support group in Bolton has proved invaluable in helping patients and carers meet each other, develop mutually supportive relationships and be informed on treatment options. The planting of the tree and time capsule is a wonderful way to pay tribute to the group.”

The group offers support for anyone affected by pulmonary fibrosis. It meets on the second Thursday of every month at the Bolton CVS Hub, Bold Street Bolton, BL1 1LS, 2.00pm- 4.00pm. For information visit admin@boltonpulmonaryfibrosis.org
