TOWN councillors voted to preserve the history of a new housing development through its new street name.

On Monday Westhoughton Town Council requested the street, being built on the former Perseverance Mill site, be named after the historic mill.

Other names suggested by the developer included Loom Close and Carding Close, but were met with mixed responses from councillors.

Cllr David Wilkinson said: "At least Loom Close and Carding Close have some connection to the site."

Concerns were also raised over the length of Perseverance Close as a street name for 35 houses.

Councillors voted to recommend that reference to the Perseverance Mill still be included.
