SOME 40,000 meals packed by members of Bolton Lever Rotary Club have reached their destination in West Africa.

The meals were put together as part of the Rise Against Hunger programme.

Members of the club took part in the event at Sharples School in April last, as part of Rotary’s District 1285 in partnership with the charity set up to fight global hunger.

Local businesses, church groups, youth organisations, community groups, clubs and service organisations took part in the meal pack.

Pictures have been posted on the Bolton Lever Rotary Club’s Facebook page of the food parcels arriving in the landlocked West African country of Burkina Faso.

Club president Bernard Murphy said the meal pack was an example of the community “working together to help feed starving people, many of whom are children, across the globe”.

The Rise Against Hunger meal packing events are volunteer-based programmes putting together “highly nutritious dehydrated meals”, which comprise of rice, soya, vegetables and 23 essential vitamins and minerals.
