A TEENAGE girl has been inspired to raise money for the Royal Bolton Hospital after the “amazing” treatment she received.

Kayleigh Rennoldson has suffered severe epilepsy since the age of two and has had to spend a great deal of time in the children’s high dependency unit, but now she wants to give something back.

Her mum, Jen, said: “It’s an idea she came up with herself. She wants to do it not just for her, but for all the children who use the unit.

“She turns 16 soon so she will have to be treated in the adult part of the hospital. This is her way of saying thank you to all the staff who have looked after her so well.

“She is on first name terms with them and is really going to miss them.”

Kayleigh, a pupil at Turton High School, has learning difficulties as a result of her epilepsy. Her seizures mean she needs to stay overnight in the hospital on a monthly and often weekly basis.

Mrs Rennoldson said: “Last week she was placed in an induced coma because her seizure went on for three hours. As always, the staff were amazing with her.”

Kayleigh, of East Way, is planning a fundraising event at the University of Bolton Stadium’s car boot sale on March 3.

She is appealing for people to donate bric-a-brac which she can sell in aid of the unit. Her stall will also offer face-painting and a raffle.

“She’s set herself a target of raising £1,000 and it would be brilliant if any local companies would be kind enough to offer prizes which she could raffle.

“She tries not to let her condition get to her and we are amazingly proud of her.”

Kayleigh has already started the fundraising ball going by raising £54 from a cake sale and from a justgiving page she has set up.

“Not many people think to raise funds for this unit but as Kayleigh knows almost all the staff there, she wants to do this as a thank you for all the care they give to the children.”
