A FORMER bakery could be extended to become two shops with flats upstairs.

An application to convert the Prices Bakery building in Westhoughton was submitted to Bolton Council on January 30.

It seeks to construct a two-storey extension to replace an existing garage and subdivide the ground floor to create two retail units.

The applicant also wants to create two residential flats on the first floor and loft space.

The building in Church Street has been used as a small bakery until it recently closed.

A two-bedroom flat above the former bakery has been used by the owner as accommodation.

Westhoughton Town Council objected to the plans at a meeting on Monday night because the "overdeveloped" site had no off-road parking.

Planning officers will decide the outcome.
