A COMMUNITY centre enjoyed its official grand opening on Saturday after there were fears that the organisation may have to shut down.
Brandlesholme Community Centre, at the site of the former Brandlesholme Library in Brandlesholme Road, was opened at a special ceremony attended by centre users, councillors and Bury North MP James Frith.
The centre is operated in part by the People’s Voice community group, who run events and services to support residents.
Last year the group’s future viability was thrown into doubt after they lost funding for the centre’s kitchen facilities.
However Elton ward councillor, Susan Southworth, stepped into the breach and agreed to privately provide funding for the facilities.
As a sign of gratitude the organisation then invited Cllr Southworth to cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony on February 9, where she was presented with a bouquet of flowers and a plaque was unveiled bearing her name.
