A MAN who was seen with a large kitchen knife sticking out of the pocket of his shorts has been sent to a young offenders’ institution for six months.
Bolton Crown Court heard how 20-year-old Daniel Lee regularly made a nuisance of himself at the wine shop on St Helens Road.
But at 6.30pm on January 16 he went into the shop and began asking customers for money with the knife obviously in his pocket.
The court was also told that on December 13 last year he and an accomplice stole two crates of Prosecco from Asda on St Helens Road.
Lee, of Cecilia Street, Bolton, pleaded guilty to theft and possessing a knife.
Elizabeth Evans, defending, described him as "immature" and susceptible to the influence of his peers.
Sentencing him, Judge Timothy Stead said Lee had not used the knife or attempted to threaten anyone with it.
But he added: "That might not be the intention but all too often it leads to tragic consequences."
