A MAN has been re-arrested as police continue to investigate the death of Breightmet mum Maggie Smythe.

A 29-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder on Friday, February 1, was released under investigation.

The man has been re-arrested today on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody for questioning.

Officers have renewed their appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

An investigation was launched when Maggie, aged 29, was reported missing from her home in Swinside Road, Breightmet, on Saturday, January 26.

On Friday, February 1, officers investigating her disappearance found her body at the rear of the Red Bridge Inn, Red Lane, Breightmet.

Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Wilkinson, of Greater Manchester Police’s Major Incident Team, said: “This is very much an ongoing investigation and we have a dedicated team of detectives working tirelessly to establish the full circumstances of Maggie’s death.

“We continue our appeal for the public’s help, and I would encourage anyone with information who has not yet spoken to police to please get in touch with us as soon as you can.

“We need answers for Maggie’s family who are completely distraught, and your information could help us provide them.”

Christopher Taylor, aged 39 of Greenroyd Avenue, Bolton, has been charged with murder.
