YOUNG filmmakers from Bolton will enjoy the red carpet treatment as they enjoy the glamour and the excitement of an awards ceremony.

University of Bolton Media students have been nominated in this year’s Royal Television Society’s Student North West Awards taking place tomorrow.

They have been shortlisted in two out of four nominations in the ‘Factual’ category.

The short film A Question of Dignity by 2018 alumna Mark Scullion, explores the impact of Alzheimer’s on ‘Right to Die with Dignity’ campaigner Alex Pandolfo.

Fellow 2018 alumna Sharleigh Wood produced the movie. She was nominated for an RTS NW Award last year for her short drama Small Things and is currently on placement as a trainer teacher with the media department.

Nicolay Armando co- directed the film with Mark, whilst working on his own film On Target which Mark also co-produced.

On Target has also been shortlisted for this year’s ‘Factual’ category.

Director Nicolay followed the story of ex-soldier Kieron Wood, who has survived a life-changing accident to become a successful Invictus Games archery champion.

Nicolay joined the University of Bolton as an overseas student and worked successfully across a variety of films as part of his Major Project.

On Target was also shortlisted for the Bolton International Film festival.

Nicolay’s crew included other talented and passionate UoB students: Director of Photography, Peshko Rahim; Editor and Post, Alastair Millar and Jonathan Burden and producers, Noor Ahmed and Mark Scullion.

Last year, Nicolay directed Addiction, which was nominated for the RTS NW Student Factual category.

Finally, RTS NW nominations also feature University of Bolton 2017 Alumna, Kathryn Berry. She worked on the University of Salford’s Living Beyond Hope.

Kathryn won the RTS NW Factual category in 2018 with her acclaimed film Fallen Angels.

Sam Johnson, the University of Bolton’s Head of the School of the Arts, said: “It is great to see our graduates gain recognition as they continue to make media that connects and inspires.”

The awards evening will take place in the Compass Room at the Lowry Theatre, Salford, on Tuesday February 26 at 6.30pm.
