CONTROVERSIAL plans to build two homes on green belt land in Horwich have been thrown out.

An application for permission in principle to build on land between Mill Lane and Gingham Brow, off Chorley Old Road, was lodged with Bolton Council in December.

Last week, planning officers rejected the plans after more than 60 letters of objection were lodged against them.

The decision was made on the grounds that it constituted "inappropriate development within the green belt" and that the applicant had not provided any special circumstances to outweigh the harm that would be caused.

Horwich North East councillor Richard Silvester said: "It is excellent news that this application has been refused.

"It was a tremendous response with the number of objection letters that were submitted by the local community.

"This application was speculative and I am glad that it has been stopped. There is a clear message now that this land should not be developed on’.
