A RENEWABLE energy firm has announced a partnership with Bury FC.

The five-year sponsorship deal was announced by Leeds-based Planet-U Energy.

As part of the deal — the financial details of which have not yet been revealed — the two partners say the stadium will be powered by 100 per cent renewable energy.

Planet-U Energy has vowed to support Bury FC in their campaign to gain promotion to League One by saving the club money with their green power.

The firm has also said it will work closely with fans and the Bury FC community, and aims to be at the "forefront of this vital environmental change".

Bury FC has welcomed the partnership, describing the sponsorship as a "landmark deal" and a "positive step" for the club.

Matthew McCarthy, Bury FC director, said: "We are very excited to welcome such an ambitious and fast-growing business into the ever-growing commercial family here at Bury FC.

"This is a landmark deal for not only the football club but also for League Two. We are looking forward to developing a successful relationship together.

"While it is still early days this partnership is another positive step in the club's continued growth and an excellent opportunity to collaborate with a brand that shares our core values."

Planet-U Energy is one of the UK's fastest growing gas and electricity suppliers, forecast 10-fold growth in the next year.

The firm's deal with the Shakers is not its first foray into sport and follows a 2018 sponsorship deal with the Leeds Rhinos rugby league club.

Grant Nicholson, Planet-U Energy CEO, said: "We are very proud and excited to be associated with Bury FC.

"The title sponsorship gives us a platform to support the team whilst driving awareness and growth for the Planet-U Energy brand.

"We are looking forward to a successful working relationship, delivering 100 per cent renewable energy for the team."
