THE Woodland Trust is inviting the people of Bolton to think of the future.

The UK's largest woodland conservation charity wants people to join it for its second large scale community tree planting day between 10am and 1pm on March 9.

This family-friendly event on the Smithills Estate will involve plenty of digging and planting of saplings, but it promises to be lots of fun too.

It is a free event and volunteers are welcome to stay for as little or as long as they like.

Guests are advised to bring appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear, as well as a packed lunch and drinks if required.

Organisers have asked that dogs are only brought if absolutely necessary.

It is a ticketed event so tickets will need to be booked in advance.

Those who wish to take part are advised to park at the newly opened Walker Fold Gateway. Staff will then provide directions to the planting site.
