IS this the equivalent of Bolton's Oscars night?
The picture was taken in June, 1939. Our archives tell us the occasion was the Civic Centre opening and the Mayor's reception. You will recognise the site as the entrance to the Albert Halls. The event has all the hallmarks of a star studded evening when crowds flocked to catch sight sight of VIPS arriving in a cavalcade of cars. Who were the smart couple attracting all of the attention, and what was the gentleman with smart overcoat and gloves saying to the policeman on duty?
