A CEO for a Bolton-based business has received a prestigious commendation at this year’s British Muslim Awards.

Asad Shamim, CEO of Furniture in Fashion, received a Highly Commended recognition award for being a finalist in the ‘Business Leader of the Year’ category in the awards in Bradford.

The British Muslim Awards, now in its seventh year, was founded to showcase the talents and strength of the British Muslim community.

The awards recognise outstanding individuals who have positively impacted Britain in areas such as business, charity, sport, arts, culture, religious advocacy, education and medicine.

Mr Shamim said: “I feel proud of everything I have achieved in life and I am very privileged to be in a position to be able to help those in need, together with those who are underprivileged.

“As well as running a successful online business, I strongly believe in the philosophy of helping others out in order to facilitate them to achieve success.”

Asad notably used his philanthropic approach to help Bolton-based boxer Muhammad Ali gain his licence last year, becoming the UK’s first diabetic professional boxer.

He worked further to ensure that the British Boxing Board of Control changed their regulations to ensure diabetic boxers can become professionals.

Asad also offered advice to young entrepreneurs and those eager to go into business, saying:

“There is a lot of talent in Bolton. A dream doesn’t become reality through some form of magic, it takes sweat, determination, persistence and hard work. Believe in yourself and work ethically.

“Sometimes you may need to take risks, but be clear in your mind about your ultimate goal and objectives.

“Keep challenging yourself and do work that gives you satisfaction and happiness.”

Furniture in Fashion, which was founded in Bolton, has a major warehouse and showroom in Farnworth which occupies over 60,000 square feet.

The business began as a store before moving online in 2006.
