A JURY has retired to consider its verdict in the trial of a Bolton man accused of causing the death of a comedian’s son.

Vithal Visavadiya, aged 63, of Clunton Avenue, Daubhill, denies causing the death by careless driving of Harrison Sievey, son of Frank Sidebottom creator Chris Sievey.

Mr Sievey, aged 24, had been cycling with a friend on February 12, 2017 when he fell off his cycle on Mauldeth Road West, Withington.

Visavadiya, who was driving a Vauxhall Corsa after an evening out with his wife, hit Mr Sievey as he lay on the ground.

Witnesses said they tried to alert the Corsa driver to the danger by waving their arms and shouting, but the car did not slow.

During the nine day trial at Manchester Crown Court the defendant told the jury that he did not see the cyclist in the road and his vision was affected by flashing lights of another motorist.

After several hours of deliberation today Judge Alan Conrad QC sent the jury home and they will resume considering their verdict on Tuesday.
