FILMING the BBC1 television programme Songs of Praise in the Victoria Hall on Friday evening was a huge thrill for all one thousand of us who sang, but it was particularly wonderful to see the hall completely rejuvenated with incredible lighting, new carpets and everywhere repainted.

Guest soloist JB Gill, formerly of the band JLS, was charming and the whole evening was a fantastic success for Bolton.

What stunned so many of us at the filming was that more than half of the Boltonians taking part had never visited or been in the Victoria Hall before.

With the world’s greatest brass band coming to the hall in less than two weeks, the Black Dyke Band on Saturday March 23, I pray that the people of Bolton will turn out to welcome these iconic musicians whether they have ever visited the Victoria Hall before or this will be their very first time, too.

We need to support such amazing visitors and keep Bolton on the national map, as Songs of Praise will undoubtedly do.
