A PAIR of private hire drivers have been suspended for failing to disclose convictions.

Both men were sanctioned by a Bolton Council sub-committee after they were found not to be "fit and proper persons".

The first driver was handed a 12-week ban when it was discovered he had been caught speeding in March last year.

Speeding itself is considered to only be a "minor traffic offence" by the council, but the man failed to declare his conviction for 96 days after he was first notified.

He had previously been caught speeding on the motorway in June 2017 and again failed to tell the council, ending in him receiving a 10-week suspension at the time.

The second driver had his licence suspended for two weeks for failing to give his identity after being caught for a traffic offence in February 2018.

The man had told the council about the incident but had not responded on time to a letter from the police asking for his information.

These hearings are held behind closed doors, which is why the drivers are not named, but some details appear on the council’s website later.
