A CYCLIST has been taken to hospital after a crash outside a former pub.
Police and ambulance services were sent to the incident, which occurred close to the old Three Pigeons on the junction of Blackburn Road and Belmont Road.
A police spokesman said a 27-year-old man was injured when he collided with metal railings close to the former pub building.
Officers were called at 12.30pm and joined paramedics on the scene.
The man was rushed to hospital, although it is not known whether his injuries are serious.
A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called to an incident on Blackburn Road at 12.23.
"The incident involved a cyclist who was taken to hospital."
