PLANS have been submitted to turn a former Little Lever pub into offices and flats.

Hands-On Computer Solutions Ltd, which is currently based in Turton Road, has submitted a planning application to Bolton Council to change the use of the Canary Tavern.

The company supplies IT support systems and maintenance to business.

They are hoping to move to the former pub in High Street, having "out grown" their Turton Road base and it is believed that the move could potentially create jobs.

Nigel Toole, working as a planning agent on behalf of the company wrote: "This is a growing company relocating from its current premises on Turton Road, which they have 'out grown'.

"Their presence does pose a realistic prospect of further job opportunities."

The application has also asked for permission to create flats on the first floor.

The Canary Tavern was closed in 2017 due to not being profitable.

Mark Adams, who owned the pub from 2009 until its sale in January of this year, supports the proposals.

He wrote in a statement: "Little Lever Pub Company Limited ceased trading in September 2017 as the public house was not profitable and had not been for some time.

"The pub was put up for sale during July 2017 and during the period until January 2019, there has been no interest shown by anyone to take over the trade as a public house.

"If a change of use would mean the building would be used again, I feel this would be a benefit to the area.

"It is my opinion that the building is no longer a viable business proposition trading as a public house."
