ANDY Burham, the Labour Greater Manchester Mayor, and the mainly Labour leaders of the 10 local authorities, the Greater Manchester Combined Authorities (GMCA) should resist the imposed cuts to our fire service by the Tory Government.
Our leaders should say to the Government they are not prepared to risk lives by closures of fire stations two in Bolton’s case, to replaced by one new station.
Firefighters jobs will be lost, as well as support staff, all to save £12.8 million across Greater Manchester.
The number of crew sent out on the first engines to fires, is currently five. This will be reduced to four.
Mr Burnham and the Labour council leaders should say to Government they are not prepared to put the public lives at risk and they require adequate funding for such a vital emergency service.
