THERE has been "significant interest" in a listed building in Moses Gate Country Park since a sign went up advertising leasing opportunities.
A mystery community group is still in talks regarding a takeover of the derelict Rock Hall, according to the council.
Although details of the potential takeover have not been revealed, the council confirmed that any community group interested in using the building would have to lease it.
Responding to ward councillor Maureen Flitcroft, officers said the current intention is to let Rock Hall but not to sell it.
They said: "Officers have been working towards bringing the property to the market for some time, but the process has not been straight forward – not least because Rock Hall contained significant amounts of asbestos (which has now been removed).
“Given that Rock Hall is a listed building, it is clearly desirable to move forward the marketing as rapidly as possible to prevent the building deteriorating."
A feasibility report on the plans has been completed.
