POLICE have issued an urgent appeal for information after a serious crash left two teenagers fighting for their lives.

The teens — aged 17 and 18 — were two of four occupants of a gold Peugeot 206 which crashed into a tree in Chorley New Road on Thursday morning.

They had been heading towards Bolton at around 5.15am when their car lost control, flew off the road and crossed incoming traffic, before smashing into a tree.

Emergency services raced to the scene and fire crews had to cut two of the occupants free.

The 17-year-old driver and 18-year old front seat passenger were rushed to hospital and were initially fighting for their lives.

They are now said to be in a "serious but stable condition".

The two rear seat passengers, who suffered minor injuries, were taken to hospital as a precaution, but have since been released.

Chorley New Road was closed into late Thursday afternoon, from Beaumont Road to Regent Road in Lostock, as police carried out their investigations into the crash.

However, no one has been arrested.

Officers are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or has any information or dashcam footage to come forward.

Constable Paul Joynson of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This collision left four people injured – two seriously – and our thoughts remain with them as they continue their recovery.

“Although this incident happened in the early hours, it was on a busy main road and we believe there may be several potential witnesses.

“If you saw the collision or the Peugeot prior to the incident, please get in touch.

“We’re also appealing for anyone who may have dashcam footage of the incident to contact us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 4741 or the independent charity, Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
