MOTORISTS faced delays this morning after a crash on the M60 near Bolton.

The incident happened at around 7.30am after vehicles collided between junctions 14 and 13 anti-clockwise.

Traffic was held for around an hour as emergency services and Highways England officers worked to clear the debris and vehicles to the hard shoulder.

It is as yet unclear if anyone was injured in the crash.

However, traffic has now been released and conditions are returning to normal.

The crash followed an earlier incident when a pedestrian was reported walking on the hard shoulder of the M60 between junctions 15 and 16 clockwise.

Elsewhere, the M66 motorway has fully reopened this morning after having been shut for almost 24 hours due to heavy rains yesterday.

All lanes of the M66 were closed northbound and southbound around junction 1 at Ramsbottom on Saturday, after a nearby river burst its banks and flooding spread from the swollen waterway.

The water streamed from an over flowing culvert near to the road way and flowed across the carriage way.

The issue was also made worse by large amounts of debris blocking drains, the fire service said.

Roadworks were carried out on the motorway over night and the carriageway between junctions 1 and 2 reopened at 6am today, Highways England has confirmed.

The stretch between the A56 and junction 1 of the M66 also remained closed but this two has now reopened.
