THERE was no way Audrey Juliff was going to miss the Queen when she visited Bolton in 1988.

And she was all smiles again last Thursday when she opened The Bolton News to see her picture next to Her Majesty The Queen.

Memories came flooding back for Mrs Juliff when we reported Queen Elizabeth II's visit to Bolton as part of the town's 150th birthday celebrations.

The 89-year-old who lives in Harwood said: "I woke up at 6am because I wanted to make sure I saw her. I left my husband in bed and he said where are you going and I said 'I'm going to see the Queen'.

"When I got there, there was no else around just police and their dogs checking everything.

"I gave her flowers which I had bought from Marks and Spencer. I forgot to take the cellophane off so they still had the price on!

"I told her I had been here since 6am and she said 'on such a cold morning' and I said it was worth it. I thanked her for coming.

"She walked off beaming carrying my flowers. All these photographers came to me afterwards asking me what she had said to me."

Mrs Juliff also met Diana Princess of Wales, with her sister, when she opened Bolton Hospice.
