DO you remember the traditional pet shop that was located in Bolton town centre?

Mittens Pet Shop, in Soho Street, used to keep a range of pets including rabbits, cats and birds.

One resident also recalls a mynah bird that was for sale inside the shop when she visited in the late 1970s.

With its striking features, the mynah bird was a friendly personality that mimicked the speech of visitors.

Sheila Arrowsmith, aged 72, used to frequent the store twice each week to stock up on pet food for her cats and birds.

She hopes that someone will remember the name of the mynah bird.

Mrs Arrowsmith, who lives in Halliwell, recalls: "The shop was located behind The Griffin, near the Olympus Fish and Chip restaurant. It was a very quaint shop. It was there for years.

"The bird used to sit in a cage. There was a little piece of cardboard sat underneath it which read 'My name is' but I can't remember for the life of me what his name was and hoped someone could help.

"It was a well-known bird. Everyone knew it.

"I used to go in there for bird seed and cat food, and to see all the animals."
