A PENSIONER was rushed to hospital after being attacked by two men near to the town centre.

The 82-year-old man suffered facial injuries after being assaulted on School Brow yesterday morning, Tuesday.

He had reversed his car out of School Brow onto General Street shortly before 9am when he got out of the vehicle in order to close a gate behind him.

But the victim was then attacked by two men who fled on foot in the direction of Eldon Street and Church Street.

The motorist was taken to Warrington Hospital for treatment but has since been discharged.

Two men aged 46 and 50 were arrested following the incident, but have since been released on bail.

PC Hannah Clement said: “An elderly man was left with facial injuries that required hospital treatment as a result of the incident.

“What happened has also left him shaken up.

“Following the incident two men from Warrington, aged 50 and 46, have been arrested on suspicion of assault.

“They have both been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.

“We are determined to establish the exact circumstances of what took place in the General Street and School Brow area in Warrington on the morning of March 19, and as part of our enquiries we are appealing for anyone who was in the area and witnessed the incident to come forward.

“The same goes for anyone with any other information or CCTV or dashcam footage that may be relevant to our investigation.”
