A MULTI-faith public vigil will be held in Bolton to remember those killed in the recent shootings in New Zealand.

The remembrance event will be held on the steps of Bolton Town Hall in Victoria square at 1.30pm on Saturday, March 23.

The vigil, which has been organised by Bolton’s Faith Leaders Forum, will feature speeches and reading from Bolton’s community, faith and civic leaders.

The event is open to anyone who wishes to pay their respects by participating in an act of remembrance.

Bolton’s Faith Leaders Forum is made up of a number of key organisations including Bolton Council of Mosques, Hindu Forum, Bolton Christian Community Cohesion and Bolton Interfaith Council.

49 people died and more than 20 others seriously injured at two mosques in Christchurch after a gunman opened fire on worshippers last Friday.

Following the attack, the Faith Leaders of Bolton released a statement to say: “As the Faith Leaders in Bolton we offer our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the people of New Zealand at this terrible time.

“We pray that at this time the diverse communities in New Zealand will stand together and that they will find strength in each other knowing that people across the world are standing with them.”
