WANDERERS’ ongoing ownership issues have been taken directly to the Minister for Sport.

Bolton West MP Chris Green has written to Mims Davies to raise concern over the club’s future and suitability of the EFL’s owners and directors’ test.

The situation at Wanderers remains in the balance ahead of a High Court hearing on April 3. Efforts to sell the club to an un-named UK-based buyer have also reached a crucial stage, and sources claim owner Ken Anderson will fly in to London before the Thursday 5pm deadline in an effort to push a deal through.

At the start of the month a joint letter was written to the EFL, co-signed by Sir David Crausby MP, Yasmin Qureshi MP and Mr Green, urging the league to assist and support efforts to save the club from liquidation.

That has now been followed up in direct correspondence to the recently-installed Sports Minister.

“Bolton Wanderers are a fantastic local club with a proud history and are at the beating heart of the community, but they are going through some serious financial troubles,” said Mr Green. “It is appalling that the current situation at BWFC has been allowed to go on for this long, which is why I have raised my concerns about the club’s situation with the Secretary of State.

“It is also very disappointing that I have not received a response from the EFL in regard to my recent letter signed by the MPs of the other two Bolton constituencies which is why I have also re-contacted the EFL, urging them for a response.”

Wanderers were given a reprieve at a winding-up hearing at the High Court last week because of a guarantee given by a mystery buyer to clear debts and complete the purchase of the club by next Wednesday’s second hearing.

Ken Anderson claims financial problems at Wanderers can be solved without the need for any of the secured lenders to put the club into administration.

“Talks are still ongoing with prospective buyers and, as matters currently stand, despite recent media speculation we do not foresee any need to appoint an administrator before the high court hearing on April 3.

“As has been reported, Thursday, March 28, is the cut-off date by which clubs would get deducted 12 points this season if they were to go into administration.

“We are all still confident that we can resolve the current financial issues and also retain our Championship status.”
