THE main post office in Kendal has been saved from closure.

The post office was set to be closed and all facilities moved to a new facility within the nearby WHSmith store.

However, MP Tim Farron's office have told The Westmorland Gazette he has been contacted by post office officials who have confirmed the planned move will not now go ahead.

Mr Farron thanked fellow campaigners for their efforts in the battle to save the post office.

“This is a massive victory for local residents," said the Westmorland and Lonsdale MP.

“Out of the hundreds of times they’ve put forward plans to close post offices across the country, this is only the second time that Post Office Ltd have backed down.

“That’s testament to everyone who signed our petition and backed our community campaign and is a great reminder of what we can achieve when we come together and take on industry bosses.”
