THIS picture of Fold Road School football team, 1949-50 should stir memories among our older readers.

The reader who submitted the picture wrote: "You will notice a few things different about the photo:

"Everyone has different shorts on and different football stockings."

Players were only given tops to play in, he said.

"The boots had very hard toe caps so if you got kicked you would know about it."

He explained that the lads who aren't wearing stripes only played in the team when someone was hurt or ill because there were no subs in those days.

He pointed out that all the players on the photo would now be aged about 83 or 84.

And he added: "I wonder if anyone can see their dad, grandad or great-grandad?"

The players are, back row: Porter, Bailey, Tommy Holt, Brian Birmingham, Colin Crompton, Bernard Whitehead, Cyril Bromley and Lally, front row: Ernie Rawlinson, Higson, Jack Wilcox, Billy Guffog, Eric Milton, Gordon Bromwich and Jack Worthington.
